U.P.S.V. “Unitas Pharmaceuticorum” (U.P.) bears the responsibility of providing its members with a healthy and safe environment. Therefore, it is important to have clear and transparent policies regarding alcohol, drugs and inappropriate behavior. When the policy refers to an activity, it means an activity of U.P. When the policy refers to the board, it means the sitting U.P. board. Should any of the rules be violated, the details of the member in question will be documented.

Different measures apply to the Abroad excursion. Here, after not complying with the policy below as a consequence, the member in question may be refused for the next Foreign Trip.

Alcohol Policy

  1. Definitions
  2. Underage drinking means consuming alcoholic beverages when under 18 years of age
  3. Drunkenness means the physical and psychological state in which strong behavioral changes occur due to an excess of alcohol in the blood. Symptoms for intoxication include: imbalance, slurred speech, limited fine motor skills and cognitive impairment.
  4. By serious intoxication we mean physical and psychological states in which the person in question poses a danger both to himself and to other persons in the vicinity. Symptoms of severe intoxication include: aggressiveness, vomiting and unconsciousness.
  5. The nature and severity of these symptoms (1.b. and 1.c.) are at the discretion of the board.
  1. Alcohol Policy
  2. Bringing your own alcoholic beverages

You are not allowed to bring your own alcoholic beverages to and consume them during activities where the remote location prohibits it.

  1. If alcoholic beverages are found that are not permitted on the premises, they will be taken away by the board. The responsible member will receive a warning. This warning will continue throughout the membership.
  2. If the member in question is again found to have this fact (2.a.i.), the person will be sent away from the activity.
  • If the member in question is found to have this fact (2.a.i.) for the third time, the person will be excluded from activities for three months.
  1. If the member in question is found to have this fact (2.a.i.) for the fourth time, the person will be expelled.
  1. Underage alcohol consumption

During activities where alcohol is served and where underage members may be present, a list of names with photograph of the underage members will be present. This list can be used to check for underage drinking. A band system will be used at parties. Only adult members will receive a band.

  1. When underage alcohol use is detected, the member in question will be deprived of alcohol. The member in question will receive a warning and the person will be sent away from the activity. This warning will continue throughout the membership.
  2. If the member in question is again found to be underage drinking, the person will be excluded from U.P. activities for three months.
  • If the member in question is found to be underage drinking for the third time, the person will be expelled.
  1. Alcohol consumption during field trips, lectures and symposia
    1. Alcohol consumption is not permitted during field trips, lectures and symposia. If alcohol consumption is detected, the person in question will be turned away and given a warning. This warning will continue throughout the membership.
    2. If drunkenness is detected prior to or during a field trip, lecture or symposium, the person in question will not be admitted or sent away.
  • If the member in question is found to have any of these facts (2.c.i. and 2.c.ii.) for the second time, the person will be excluded from U.P. activities for three months.
  1. If the member in question is found to have this fact (2.c.i. and 2.c.ii.) for the third time, the person will be expelled.
  2. When drinks are organized after a field trip, lecture or symposium, participants should behave responsibly there as well. This is at the discretion of the board.

Drug Policy

  1. Definitions
  2. By drugs we mean substances that cause a change in consciousness, these can be divided into three categories:
  3. Narcotics, examples of narcotics are: sleep aids, GHB, nitrous oxide, heroin and other opiates.
  4. Stimulants, examples of stimulants are: cocaine, amphetamine (speed) and XTC.
  • Mind-altering drugs, examples of mind-altering drugs are: hash, weed, LSD and magic mushrooms.
  1. Drug use means the use of any of the above and equivalent substances, other than medically necessary.
  1. Drug Policy
  2. During all activities, drug use by members and externals present at the activity is prohibited.
  3. Action against drug use can only be taken when possession or use of drugs is actually observed.
  4. During an activity, the board is responsible for spotting the use of drugs.

  2. The measures below can only be taken during membership.
  3. A member who is proven, or can be assumed with certainty, to have been guilty of using drugs during an activity will be removed from the activity. Only the board can judge whether drug use has occurred and remove the member in question.
  4. When a member has been found to have used drugs at an activity, that member will be suspended for a period of three months.
  5. If drug use is detected again at an activity after the end of the suspension, the member in question will be expelled.
  1. Measures drug use externally
  2. If drug use by an external is detected at an activity, the external in question will be removed from the activity by the board. The details of the person in question are recorded.
  3. Externs who have previously used drugs at an activity, if recognized, may be refused admission.

Improper conduct policy

  1. Definitions
  2. A member has respect. The member treats people fairly and equally regardless of gender, race, country of origin, color, sexual orientation, religion, political opinion and socioeconomic status.
  3. A member shall refrain from conduct that may bring U.P. into disrepute. A member shall behave in a courteous and respectful manner and refrain from making hurtful and/or offensive remarks.
  4. A member does not touch anyone against his or her will, does not use physical force and refrains from sexual harassment.
  1. Assessment of improper conduct
    1. Failure to comply with points (1.) is classified as improper conduct. The nature and severity of the improper conduct will be at the discretion of the board.
  1. Measures improper behavior members
  2. The measures below can only be taken during membership.
  3. If the board considers that a member has been guilty of improper conduct, the member in question shall be suspended for a period of three months.
  4. If improper behavior is observed again at an activity after the end of the suspension, the member in question will be expelled.
  1. Measures of improper external behavior
  2. If inappropriate behavior by an external person is observed at an activity, the external in question will be removed from the activity by the board.
  3. Externs who have previously exhibited inappropriate behavior at an activity, if recognized, may be refused admission.
