UPPER (Utrecht Pharmacy Panel for Education and Research) is a knowledge center for pharmaceutical practice research and internship, and part of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Utrecht University. UPPER forms a network of scientists, practicing pharmacists and patients, in which knowledge exchange between parties is central. In this way, UPPER aims to make scientific knowledge accessible.
What can UPPER do for you?
At UPPER, you can do your research project, undergraduate thesis, elective internship or elective course in the field of pharmaceutical practice research. UPPER often receives inquiries from both pharmacies and patient organizations. They are investigations that apply scientific knowledge and experience to a socially relevant issue.
In the master’s phase of study, UPPER coordinates mandatory practical internships in public and hospital pharmacy.

The examination board oversees examination arrangements and graduation ceremonies. For example, she determines when exams must be marked or when you can get an exemption for a particular section. And did you fail a course within the regular regulations, but have personal circumstances that argue for an additional substitute test? Then raise it with the examination board!

Utrecht University places demands on everyone who fulfills a task within education. These requirements have been translated into a university qualification system. the Faculty of Science, to which the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences belongs, has converted these requirements into a faculty regulation outlining the procedure and requirements for Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) and Senior Teaching Qualification (SKO). Every teacher working in Pharmacy is required to obtain a BKO. To do this, a teacher must write a training plan and maintain a portfolio of developments made.
The BKO/SKO committee evaluates training plans and teaching portfolios of Pharmaceutical Sciences teachers. It advises the head of the department on awarding qualifications and also takes initiatives to promote faculty expertise.
